Handcrafted from locally sourced natural wood, this bowl can be used for serving scrumptious meals.

Craft Type:  Wood Work

This bowl is made from acacia wood, sourced responsibly, and handcrafted in Auroville. The grains of the natural wood used to craft the bowl form unique patterns such that no two bowls can ever really look the same. The bowl effortlessly lends itself to all kinds of table settings from a laid-back weekend lunch to a formal dinner. The bowl has been treated with tung oil, making it 100% food safe.

This product is created by Worktree, a wood-crafting workshop in Auroville that produces well-designed and functional wooden products — all handcrafted and made from responsibly sourced acacia wood. The workshop itself derives its name from the acacia tree, which is also locally known as ‘worktree’.

This product is handcrafted and therefore slight variations in colors, textures and forms are inevitable and aren’t flaws.

Products like this one are made by carving wood by hand with the help of tools such as knives, chisels and mallets. In some cases, it also involves woodturning, a process that — much like a potter’s wheel — involves having a piece of wood spin on an axis as it is cut and molded into the required shape. The wood products used as serve ware and dinnerware are treated with food-safe oil, in this case tung oil, making it 100% safe to use for all food items. It’s also worth noting that wood is a hard material, which does not chip or break easily, and therefore products made with natural wood are long-lasting.

- Wash by hand only, using a mild dishwashing soap. Dry completely with a soft towel and let it air, preferably overnight, before storing it. To avoid the swelling and cracking of wood, do not soak in water.

- To keep the wood in good condition and to maintain the color and shine of the wood, it is advisable to apply a little oil from time to time. Use a soft cloth and a conditioning oil for this purpose. Steps to follow for conditioning: After gently washing the product as described above, rub a liberal amount of conditioning oil olive oil or tung oil all over the product. Set the product on a towel to let the oil soak in for a few hours, then apply a second coat. Repeat until the product doesn’t seem to absorb any more oil. With a clean, gentle cloth, rub off any oily residue that’s left over.

- This product is not microwave-safe.
