Ashiesh shah’s career can be traced from working in new york city in the early 2000s to spearheading his own design firm, ashiesh shah architecture + design for the past eight years. His vision of space and choice of materials find inspiration in wabi-sabi — a japanese philosophy outlined by an aesthetic that is imperfect, impermanent, and incomplete.

JAIPUR BLUE TOTEM

A marriage of indian handicrafts with modern aesthetics, jaipur blue stools pays homage to an intricate art form, modernized with ethnicity. Four stools, painted on either side with traditional motifs, erect to form a six foot totem pole that's enveloped in blue.

CHANNAPATNA STOOL

Marrying the children’s toy craft with modern aesthetic, ‘channapatna stool’ is a standing example of colour, form and geometry. Assembled like individual totem stems, holding up a perfectly textured, black seat, the stool finds voice with its colour.

MANY MOON, KANSA

The celestial kansa sphere fragments itself into nine dinner table objects, grained with grey, cratered to hand made perfection. Two bowls, six trays and platter, orbit the collection from one 'moon’ to 'many’ moons. This everyday object draws its inspiration from wabi-sabi with the rawness of the quarry and hand made quality of the dinnerware. A minimal sphere, that sits as a sculpture, slices itself to perform indispensable program, a dining experience for six.

MANY MOON

A play of proportions within the composition, rises to form iongpi, from the ukhrul district of the indian state of manipur. Days of sun-bathing the hand molded form, burnished by plant seeds, sets it forth in a kiln before it ensues solid, yet fragile, blackened to calculation with chirono leaves. A conformation of perfect imperfection.
